Humboldt Mountain Bike Adventure
Humboldt mountain sits at 5204 feet and is located between Cave Creek and Carefree north of Scottsdale in the Phoenix metro area.
The climb itself is paved **but there are numerous sections of gravel (and washboards) to get to the base of the paved climb so bring a bike that can handle some dirt (and/or drive a vehicle that can handle a bumpy road). I chose to use my cannondale f-si hardtail mountain bike for this adventure since I knew it would be a mixed surface ride and I wanted a little suspension to ease the jolts of the gravel road washboard sections. It was the perfect tool for the job.
At the top of the climb is a white golf ball shaped tower… that “golf ball” is actually an FAA radar station. The ride is great -with very little motorized traffic out there and amazing views in all directions. Temps are cooler at these higher elevations too ! Plus you’re likely to see friendly cows who’ll give you the nod as you pedal past. ;)
Stop at ravens view when you’re done, for a great coffee or lunch. It’s a rad little woman-owned restaurant that you’ll drive or ride past and dogs are also welcome.
